Satisfaction! That was the only word to
describe the whole thing. We had gone through a lot of fun activities with the
kids in Desa Temuan. Although we were tired to death, everything had paid off
with the happiness, I swear. I bet the kids had fallen in love with us already.
I could see my friends were good at entertaining the kids. Whatever being
requested by the kids, they were definitely going to do it. The most obvious
one was many of the children loved to be carried and some of my friends did not
mind carrying them while bringing them here and there and everywhere. That will
be the exhausting part for them, I think. For me, what I love the most was I
got to know this one little girl named Kelly. She is in Standard 4. She is very
funny with her hilarious jokes and riddles. I could not stop laughing when all
my answers to her quizzes were just correct even though I answered them
ridiculously. I never got it wrong even a single question. If she is going to
be a teacher one day, I really want to be her student! I did not really get a
chance to know the others since I was stuck to this adorable girl. We declared
each other as a friend. The children called us ‘cikgu’ but this girl called me
‘kakak cantik’ and I like it a lot. Actually, I was just kidding when I told
her to call me by using that title but she did not refuse so, I was her ‘kakak
cantik’.
The truth was I had known Kelly since the
day we opened the booth during the Sunday Market event in Desa Temuan. The
reason was to get close to the children before we organize our own event. Kelly
showed me how to play with musically, how to dance, how to do ‘pick up lines’
and she never stopped with her unexpected and funny riddles. Let me share one;
among all the shapes that we have learned in school, which one is moving? My
answer is a circle because I think it is rolling but actually, the exact answer
is the heart shape. Why? Because it is PUMPING! I could not stop smiling for
this one. That was a 2 in 1 question since she was giving me a punchline too. I
think she is very cute and is kind of mature for a 10 years old kid. The
considerable part was she never asked me to carry her behind my back or else
she was not going to be my favorite. She kept telling me about her siblings,
friends and someone special that she had crushed on. Can you just tell how
close we are! I miss her already.
Besides having Kelly, I felt grateful for
participating the food bureau because I enjoyed it so much when my friends and
I were working together to make sure that we could prepare the sandwiches
before the lunchtime during the event. We made it! We prepared so much until it
exceeded our expectation. Actually, we were expecting for over 100 children but
less than half were joining us. That made us a little bit scared that we kept
thinking, what if we would not be able to finish all of the sandwiches but in
the end, no worries! Nobody could refuse the most delicious sandwiches we had
made and therefore, nothing left except for the empty plastics in the dustbin.
Next, the most precious moment that I assembled while working with my teammates
was when we spent our time together to buy the raw materials for the food
preparation. We figured out together on what to buy and what to choose; either
the branded material or the cheapest one. We really wanted to serve the best
for the kids so, I think this is very challenging for us since we want to give
the best but we also need to consider the budget.
In conclusion, I was glad to be given the
chance to work with all my friends. Throughout the whole journey, I learned
that teamwork was very important in order to ensure everything went according
to what had been planned. We enjoyed having a rehearsal before the day itself.
Everybody was giving their fullest cooperation, especially during the hamper
wrapping session. I could say that none of us were recklessly spending our time
by doing something unrelated to our event. I would like to thank everyone who
was lending their efforts, helping other bureaus as well and ensuring that no
one was left behind. Although we are of different races and religions, no
boundaries were built between us. I hope we would be able to organize our own
event and work together once again in the future.
